Ashleigh's Birth Story

Here is a little preface to the story.   When I found out I was pregnant, we were so excited!  According to my cycle, my due date was August 2nd.  When I went in for my first appointment, my doctor changed my due date to August 12th.  I have never had a doctor change a due date before, so I just said whatever and kept thinking August 2nd in my head.

When August 2nd came and went I decided that he was more correct than I thought.  So the waiting game really began after that.  I really wanted to have her before, or on the 12th because Jaxon and Kyleigh started school the 14th and I started school the 26th.  The sooner she came, the better for my sanity.  So Friday the 9th rolls around and I decided to call my doctor and schedule an induction for Monday the 12th.  To my dismay, they were booked for inductions, so he scheduled me for Sunday morning.  I told him that I really wanted to try to go without drugs, so he said he would try to make that as possible as he could for me.

So…. Late Friday night, or early Saturday morning at 1:45am I woke up to a contraction.  I decided to check the time, just in case they started coming more regularly.  So at about 2:00am I woke Lance up and told him we should probably head to the hospital.  He got the kids all in the car to head out to grammy’s house and we were off to the hospital.  We got there a little bit before 3:00am and headed to our room.  When they checked me, I was already dilated 6cm.  I told them I was going to try to go natural, but I wasn’t completely against an epidural.  They called my doctor and he decided to make his way to the hospital. Lance and I just got to hang out while the contractions started coming, during this first initial period they were not too bad at all.  It was nice to be able to look forward for the contraction to be over, because this was the hard part with being induced.  There usually is no break in between those suckers!  So they told me they would check me whenever I wanted, or whenever they thought it would be a good time.  Shift change for the nurses was around 5, so my nurse wanted to check me before she left. I was 8cm, and she asked me if I wanted to wake the doctor up and have him break my water to speed anything up.  I told her no, I was fine with my progression.

The new nurse then came in and it was about 5:30am or so.  At this point the contractions really started coming more quickly, I was to the point where I really had to breathe through each one and definitely could not talk.  She offered me a ball to sit on to see if it would be more comfortable, I said that sounded good.  As soon as she came back with the ball I started to feel more and more pressure.  I felt like I had to pee so bad!!  She told me to try to go, and then she would check me.  So I attempted to go to the bathroom, which was unsuccessful, then got back into the bed.  I was complete and ready to push!  She called the doctor…. Then all of the sudden my water broke, Lance even heard it!  While the doctor was on his way, I was having these crazy sensations to push, and my body was not about to let me stop.  It was kind of like an out of body experience, because my body was doing what it needed to do and I was just kind of there, kind of amazing!  So, I let it go on and push

When the doctor came in, I told him I was pretty sure I just pushed the head out.  I am not sure if he believed me or not, but after he got all sterile, he lifted him the sheet and sure enough saw a head.  Then he proceeded to help with the shoulders and there she was…at 6:08am.  2 pushes later.

It was a quick and a great experience. I had everything work out perfectly and I was so happy, it was such a blessing to me! I would do it again if I were having any more babies!! Just wanted to document it so I could remember it for myself!
